AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin nonprofit will now be able to assist 14 more people each day who are looking for a place to sober up.

On Monday, The Sobering Center announced its new second floor is officially open, doubling its capacity.

"The completion of the second floor represents a step forward in our mission to provide safe, supportive care for those using substances," said CEO Laura Elmore LeBlanc, a licensed master social worker- advanced practice.

The new floor will include updated areas for clients along with more space for staff members to assist with discharging patients and providing care.

The organization is hosting a celebratory event at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at Electric Gravy Mumbai Bar & Canteen in East Austin.
