Approximately 1,100 acres on the North Kaibab Ranger District in the Kaibab National Forest is being prepared for prescribed fire pile burns pending required approvals.

The work is estimated to continue through the winter as weather conditions allow. Pile burns are meant to treat slash, such as branches piled by thinning crews in hand piles and after the completion of timber projects, with the aim of reducing flammable fuels.
