LONGVIEW, Texas — An East Texas veteran is asking for community donations to create care packages for 20 Texas National Guard troops returning from overseas duty.

Randy Ruby expects 20 members of the Texas National Guard to return to the state from deployment in Kuwait during the first week of December. They’ve been deployed for approximately six months, he said. Ruby is friends with the leader of the platoon, he said.

They were deployed to Iraq together in 2008. Ruby reached out to ask what the returning troops could use, and he learned that troops don’t receive care packages as often as they used to.
