NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - Amtrak is expecting a record number of travelers on the rails for Thanksgiving, prompting the railroad to add extra trains and cars this week to handle the increased demand.
Last year, more than 1.2 million people traveled by rail during the busy Thanksgiving season. Based on early bookings that showed double-digit growth, Amtrak is predicting a record-breaking 2025.
The railroad expects 81 percent of its riders this week to travel 250 miles or less to reach their destinations.
