OLNEY, Md. — Maryland’s Senators are introducing a bill to name a post office in Olney after a U.S. Army veteran and 27-year employee of the postal service, Sgt. Edward Lawrence Ramsey.
Ramsey's 20 years of military service included assignments in Panama, Louisiana, and the Walter Reed Medical Center in D.C. He also served at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.
Ramsey spent 27 years as a clerk at the Olney Post Office. According to a release from Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks (both D-Md.), Ramsey “became a beloved fixture of the Olney community.”
“Ed never sought recognition; he simply cared deeply about the customers. Knowing this post office could soon carry his name means the world to our family. It’s a beautiful reminder of the patience, kindness, and quiet generosity
