MAINE, USA — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has added new language to its website suggesting a possible connection between infant vaccines and autism—contradicting decades of scientific consensus.
Now, health professionals and autism advocates in Maine are speaking out against the change, saying it could do real harm.
For more than 10 years, Tyler Davis of Ellsworth has been receiving support for autism through the nonprofit Downeast Horizons .
“Due to the nature of it being a genetic thing, it’s always been with me,” Davis said. “But thanks to early intervention, I’ve been able to overcome some of those disabilities.”
Davis worries that the CDC’s revised language could discourage families from seeking early intervention for children with autism.
