BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Department leaders warned Monday, Nov. 24, that proposed budget cuts could slow road-related projects and services across the city-parish.
Director Fred Raiford told the metro council during the latest budget hearing that reductions to his department would change how crews produce and install traffic signs and how they operate the city-parish’s traffic signal system. That, he said, could lead to more congestion and possible safety issues on parish roads.
Despite the concerns, he said they’ll do everything to they can to keep services running, but they may not meet the level of service the public expects.
“If the cuts remain, we just may not have the manpower or the capabilities that need to be done to meet those expectations,” Raiford said.
