When the Dragon Bravo Fire jumped its containment lines and overran the historic Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim in July, some observers were heartened by the sight of the lodge’s stonework still standing.

But in late October, the Grand Canyon Historical Society shared images to Facebook showing an excavator demolishing portions of the surviving stonework. “Apparently, the heat damage to the stone/mortar affected its structural integrity too much to save the walls,” the post stated. +2
