Williamsburg and Poquoson have both entered into new long-term agreements with Republic Services for recycling.
The new contracts come on the heels of the Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority’s contract termination with Tidewater Fiber Corp. in September. The termination, based on what the authority called “significant performance deficiencies,” left Williamsburg, James City County, York County and Poquoson scrambling for new recycling providers.
Williamsburg initially signed a contract extension with TFC, which ends on Dec. 13. After that date, a new agreement will allow the authority to provide recycling to Williamsburg residents through Republic Services, which handles the city’s trash collection.
