Is it too late to get an influenza or COVID-19 shot?

Although flu vaccines have been available for a bit now, there's still time if you haven't gotten one yet. Health officials recommend people get vaccinated before the holiday season — think Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's — arrives. Influenza season typically peaks between December and February.

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, spreads through close contact with people who are already sick with the virus or by touching objects with the virus on them. Symptoms typically include fever, chills, a cough or sore throat, among other symptoms.

The CDC says that despite the effectiveness of the vaccine, only about half of Americans get an annual flu vaccine in a typical year.
