MINDEN , Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island man was sentenced to six months in jail for a crash that killed a passenger in his truck.
Duniesky Benitez Torres, 36, was convicted of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide. A judge sentenced him to 180 days in jail in September.
Court records show the crash happened Nov. 5, 2024, in Kearney County at an intersection about two miles east of Wilcox.
Benitez Torres’ truck ran a stop sign and crashed into a car driven by Nurita Lambert of Axtell. Benitez Torres and Lambert were injured. But a passenger in Benitez Torres truck, 35-year-old Salvador Alvarado Reyes of Kearney, was killed.
Court documents indicate that Benitez Torres admitted to missing the stop sign at the intersection. Investigators also determined he was driving without a valid driver
