A man accused of attempting to murder a police officer in Paisley with a chainsaw has been convicted. Liridon Kastrati, 32, was found guilty at the High Court in Paisley on Tuesday (November 25) for the attack which was described as 'shocking and calculated'.

Kastrati had rammed a car into a marked police vehicle on Glasgow Road in the Ralston area of Paisley in May of last year . He then chased the officers while brandishing a running chainsaw, shouting and swearing at them.

The officers called for immediate assistance and were quickly joined by colleagues and Kastrati was arrested. Two officers were injured as a result of the initial crash and treated by paramedics.

Glasgow Live previously reported that one of the officers, Pc Gary Cowan, described the ordeal as 'terrifying'.
