The only thing Brian Dayton, of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, didn't mention in his excellent Gazette-Mail op-ed on energy sources is that renewables are, in most cases, the cheapest form of energy available and getting cheaper all the time. The current administration's support of dirty fuel is just like the West Virginia Coal Association's support of coal. They both take away our best energy option and raise our energy bills.
Over the past 15 years, electricity rates in West Virginia have risen almost twice as fast as the national average. Perhaps the saddest thing about West Virginia's energy policy is that state and congressional leadership are only supporting coal mine owners while ignoring the plight of coal miners and coal mining communities.
