DETROIT, MI – A Michigan-based automotive supplier is set to close its facilities in Detroit, permanently laying off at least 155 employees over the next couple of months.
Autokiniton, under Oakland Stamping LLC, issued an update about the closure to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan in two letters dated Oct. 7 and Nov. 14.
According to the first notice , 133 layoffs are set to begin Friday, Dec. 5, as the company shutters its multi-building facility along Woodland and Oakland avenues and Rosedale Court. Another 32 are set to be laid off starting Jan. 16 at the same addresses, though the latter notice lists the total number of jobs impacted at 165.
Most employees affected are production operators. Also impacted will be engineers,
