BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Common Council has approved a new homestead plan to sell city owned vacant lots.
The 2025 Homestead Plan will see the city sell their 6,000 vacant lots to neighboring residents and business owners for a minimum of $1,000 if they meet certain conditions.
The lots will be open for bidding for those who plan to build homes on the properties and can complete construction within 2 years, neighbors wishing to expand their side-yards, those looking to renovate abandoned structures on certain lots, or those looking to build community assets such as urban farms.
“It’s time our vacant lots become assets for the neighborhoods they’re located in, and there are a number of ways to achieve that goal with this Homestead Plan,” said Bryan Bollman, Buffalo Common Council Pr
