NEWBURYPORT — Former Department of Public Services Director Anthony Furnari faces up to five years behind bars if convicted of an indecent assault and battery charge filed last week in Newburyport District Court.
Furnari, 66, was released on personal recognizance following his arraignment Monday. He is due back in court Dec. 11 for a pretrial hearing. Judge Peter Doyle ordered Furnari, who worked for the city from 2009 to 2022 with a small gap near the end of his tenure, to stay away from and have no contact with his accuser.
