Daniel Postgate was the son of Bagpuss co-creator Oliver Postgate and he went on to have his own successful career in TV himself

A BBC Bafta-winner was found dead in his shed after getting a letter from the NHS . Daniel Postgate died at the age of 61 in June after splitting from his partner of 35 years. A highly-regarded figure in TV, he brought modern versions of shows such as Bagpuss and The Clangers to our TVs.

An inquest into his death was held in Maidstone this week. Daniel was found dead in a shed at his home in Whistable after taking his own life. He had been battling blood cancer and had a history of depression and anxiety. He had gone through chemotherapy in 2019 but then received a letter just a day before he died which discussed his diagnosis.
