PARMA, Ohio -- After a hot summer without air-conditioning at City Hall, City Council is expected to approve the purchase of a new $246,254 chiller for a spring installation.

“Basically, a chiller is how we get cold air,” Parma Service Director Tony Vannello said. “We spent the majority of the summer with some pretty hot City Council meetings where fans were going all over the place.

“It was a tough year with a lot of window units that we had to put in temporarily to keep some departments operational.”

The Smith & Oby Company will be installing the new building automation system with the service director noting Parma is earmarking its $120,000 Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) grant toward the cost.

The chiller is located in the basement.
