A row over whether men could be more involved in tackling violence against women ensued at a council meeting yesterday following claims they need to take more action.

During the environment and liveable neighbourhoods committee proposals to implement a citywide strategic plan against gender based violence were approved after an intense debate.

The council’s vision will see the creation of “a strong and flourishing Glasgow where all individuals are equally safe and respected, and where women and girls live free from all forms of violence , abuse and exploitation — and the attitudes that help perpetuate it.”
