WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The City of Wichita announced that work at the city’s new, approximate $500 million water treatment plant is stalled again, this time due to “ongoing issues with the clarifiers.” Clarifiers remove suspended solids from the water that’s being treated.

“Wichita Water Partners (WWP), the entity building the plant that currently has ownership of the facility, contacted City staff to alert them that there was a mechanical failure in the clarifiers at the facility. The facility will now not be operational before the end of 2025,” the city summarized Wednesday morning in a news release.

The news release expressed that the city council and staff are “extremely disappointed with the continued pattern of missed deadlines from WWP for bringing the plant online.”
