CHICAGO, Ill. — A utility company is preparing for upcoming severe weather.

ComEd announced that ahead of "significant weather" coming to northern Illinois, it is opening its Emergency Operations Center early. ComEd also said it would get equipment and extra crews in place.

The current forecast calls for strong winds up to 60 miles per hour on Wednesday and 4 to 6 inches of snow on Saturday.

David Perez, the executive vice president and COO of ComEd, acknowledged that any outages can affect Thanksgiving plans.

"Our crews are working around the clock to restore power to impacted customers as quickly and as safely as possible," said Perez.

ComEd said that in preparation for winter, they take steps that include inspecting power lines and manholes. ComEd has also invested in tree trim
