The proposed closure of a Level 4 correctional facility in Wilmington continues to draw opposition.

The Delaware Department of Correction recently announced a plan to close down the Plummer Community Corrections Center. At a community meeting it was stated that re-entry is a lot different from a few decades ago, and the population at the facility is well below capacity. Offenders would be transferred to other facilities in Kent and Sussex Counties. The building is also aging and in need of an estimated $4-million worth of maintenance and repairs.

Tuesday, Councilwoman Shané Darby gathered with several offenders outside of the Plummer Center.
