LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen opened the Capitol for the Huskers to make more progress on the Big Ten blood drive Wednesday.

The Huskers are still in second place, trailing Wisconsin by about 150 donations.

Jack Burchess heads the blood drive for Nebraska’s student government and said Nebraska can beat the Badgers on the volleyball court and on the football field — but can’t lose to them in what he calls the most important competition that the Big Ten sponsors.

“We love our community. Almost all of the blood that’s donated in Nebraska stays right here in Nebraska,” Burchess said. “The only way people can get blood is through donations, and each donation saves up to three lives.”

Dec. 5 is the last day to donate.
