GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Blustery winds and icy conditions may keep some travelers off the roads, but it doesn’t appear to be deterring Grand Rapids residents from running this holiday week.
The 33rd annual Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) Turkey Trot, held on Thanksgiving Day, has already seen 6,200 registrants as of Wednesday morning.
The Nov. 26 registration total is up from the 5,400 runners that were registered on Monday, Nov. 24, and is close to breaking last year’s participation record of 6,435.
Last year, the race raised more than $300,000 for GRPS athletics. Organizers are urging the community to help push this year’s event over the top by registering ahead of Thursday’s start.
