Right before Christmas in 2023, a Harrisburg police detective showed up at Marilyn McFadden’s door with the news her 18-year-old son had been killed in a city alley .

Amari McFadden-Sowers was lured to the 1500 block of Ella Alley under pretenses late at night on Dec. 19, 2023. He was ambushed and shot nine times, his body left for a nearby resident to find when she left for work around 3 a.m. the next day.

McFadden said Detective Michael Rudy swore he’d find the person who killed her son. Two years later, he delivered on that promise.

James T. Scott, 22, was charged on Wednesday with homicide and two firearms offenses. He was arrested on unrelated charges less than a month after McFadden-Sowers’ death and is incarcerated at SCI Camp Hill.
