COLUMBIA, S.C. — Clemson University Livestock-Poultry Health (CULPH) officials are monitoring a multi-state outbreak of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) and its severe neurologic form, Equine Herpes Myeloencephalopathy (EHM), following cases linked to barrel racing and rodeo events in Texas and Oklahoma.
While no ca ses have been confirmed in South Carolina, state officials say the highly contagious virus poses a significant threat to horses and other equids, prompting strengthened monitoring and updated import safeguards.
