Two members of the U.S. National Guard were shot Wednesday afternoon in downtown Washington, D.C., near the White House. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the incident, which occurred near the entrance to the Farragut West Metro station.

The Metropolitan Police Department reported an active-shooter call at approximately 2:20 p.m. ET. Officers arrested one suspect, who was also shot during the incident. A law-enforcement official, speaking to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the suspect’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
