EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A piece of a historic downtown Evansville home has been stolen.

A surveillance camera from a neighbor in the 600 block of SE First Street captured what happened

Amy Hayden says a decorative iron horse head hitching post was in her front yard for more than 150 years, until the head was ripped off and stolen early Tuesday morning.

Police say the video shows a bald man, driving a white or silver Chevy truck taking off with it.

It’s estimated to be worth $1,000.

“It’s sad that someone would take an historic piece that shows how people lived in 1867. Many enjoy walking the historic district streets and its diverse architecture and elements from years ago,” said Hayden.
