GREEN LAKE COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - Hunters in Green Lake County are using their success in the woods to help others.
A “Donate A Deer” drive is collecting venison for the local food pantry just in time for the busy holiday season.
A line of deer stacked in the back of a pickup, 10 at once, all headed to local families who need them most.
“That’s the largest one-time donation we have seen,” says Todd Morris, a Green Lake County conservationist.
For four years, the county’s land conservation department has run this “Donate A Deer” drive, turning a successful hunt into much-needed meals.
The program started because there’s no processor in town, so the county stepped in.
On average, they collect about 15 deer, which is about 350 pounds of venison.
