CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - As eastern Iowa braces for a chance of snow over the holiday weekend, road crews say much of their preparation is already finished — and the upcoming Thanksgiving break won’t change their response plans.
In Cedar Rapids, five trucks were out on Wednesday pre-treating streets with brine. Other crews spent the day inspecting equipment and checking lights, mirrors and tires.
“The rest of our crews are getting the snow equipment ready, checking the lights, checking the mirrors, checking the tires, making sure everything is in working condition,” said Brian McLeod, Cedar Rapids Street Superintendent.
City officials say winter preparation often begins two or three days before the first flakes fall.
