POLK COUNTY, Iowa ( KCCI ) - An Albia man is facing additional charges following a deadly motorcycle crash that killed a Des Moines student in September, KCCI reports.
23-year-old Kaelin Meinders, of Albia, was charged with vehicular homicide and operating while intoxicated in connection to the death of 15-year-old Santiago Rhone, according to court documents.
Meinders was initially charged with reckless driving, driving while barred, and driving without insurance. Meinders also faces a weapon charge for possessing a handgun during the crash.
Police say Meinders was riding his motorcycle and crashed into Rhone in the 4900 block of NE 29th Street. Rhone died at a local hospital, while Meinders was also hospitalized.
