DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) - Gov. Kim Reynolds is prioritizing property tax relief as she prepares for Iowa’s 2026 legislative session, which begins Jan. 12 and will be her last before stepping down.

Reynolds, who announced she will not seek re-election next year, spoke with reporters this week about her agenda items, including Medicare work requirements, school lunches and property taxes.

Property tax relief takes priority

The governor said she is shifting most of her attention to lowering property taxes after the issue failed to gain approval earlier this year. She recently finished hosting roundtables across the state to hear from Iowans dealing with high costs.
