RUPERT, Vt. (WCAX) - The town of Rupert, with its population of about 700 people, was chartered in 1761 and is bordered by New York to its west. It’s home to the Merck Forest & Farmland Center , which teaches people about sustainable land use and holds classes. As Cat Viglienzoni reports in this week’s Vermont’s Own , a class at the center led to a local holiday tradition.

The Monday before Thanksgiving, Jennifer Daly’s garage in Wallingford becomes a well-oiled wreath-making machine as volunteers from the Congregational Church of Rupert make the 40-minute trek to craft handmade holiday decorations.

The dedicated volunteers spend hours clipping, cutting, crimping, and decorating wreaths to support their historic church. Last year, they turned out 140 wreaths, the most yet.
