Nine inmates convicted of crimes in Marion County were recently freed from state prison.

The Oregon Department of Corrections had cut their sentences by years, months or days.

Now, all nine of them are back in custody after a surprising roundup by authorities days before Thanksgiving.

Other inmates who were told they too would be getting out early could instead end up serving their original sentences.

The state’s reversal follows a series of legal and political moves in recent weeks, where prosecutors have criticized corrections officials for the releases and reduced sentences.
