HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A high surf advisory is in effect for most north and west-facing shores until 4 a.m. Friday.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu said the advisory is in effect for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai and the north shores of Maui.
Waves are expected to peak at 15 to 20 feet for north shores into early Thursday before slowly declining.
West shores could get waves as high as 10 to 15 feet.
Strong breaking waves and currents will make swimming dangerous.
Your First Alert Weather Team is also tracking could be the first extra-large swell of the winter surf season for north and west shores, with wave heights exceeding the 25-foot high surf warning threshold.
This swell is expected to build Saturday and peak Saturday night into Sunday
