WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) - Resigning from a position he’s held for seven years, Washington City Manager Jonathan Russell says he’s proud of the work he’s been able to contribute to the community.

“Serving as the city manager of Washington has been the greatest honor of my professional career,” Russell says. “It’s been wonderful serving here.”

The city council held a special meeting on Wednesday and voted unanimously to accept his resignation, although some said it was done with a heavy heart.

“Jonathan Russell has been an incredible city manager,” Washington Mayor Donald Sadler says. “He’s young, he’s experienced, and full of energy. He’s a smart young man, and he’s led the city with several great projects.”
