An Afghan national has been named as the suspected shooter after two US National Guard members were gunned down near the White House, according to multiple sources. Rahmanullah Lakanwal is a 29-year-old Afghan national who came to the US in 2021.
According to NY Post , Lakanwal was allegedly lying in wait before he rounded the corner near the Farragut West Metro Station in Northwest DC around 2.15pm, then opened fire, striking a female guard in the chest before shooting her in the head, according to law enforcement sources.
The two guards were on duty when the targeted attack took place. They were both in critical condition in hospital according to FBI director Kash Patel.
