THE Budget leak which plunged Rachel Reeves’s speech into chaos on Wednesday may have come from an “external person”, the head of the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) has said.

The OBR document revealed the contents of Reeves’s Budget half an hour before the Chancellor announced the measures in the Commons , leading the Tories to call for a full probe into the potentially “criminal” act .

An investigation has already been launched, OBR chairman Richard Hughes said on Thursday morning, while also confirming that he would resign if the Chancellor and Treasury Committee said they had no confidence in him.
