NORFOLK, Va. — PETA is spreading holiday cheer for local dogs who live outdoors by collecting toys for animals chained or penned outside in the Hampton Roads area. Donations can be made online or dropped off at participating businesses throughout December.
“Dogs forced to live outside in the cold are deprived of comfort and joy every day of the year, but even just one toy to play with can help make a sad dog’s spirits a little brighter,” said PETA Vice President Emily Allen. She encouraged residents to keep pets indoors, where they belong, and to contribute to the toy drive.
PETA fieldworkers regularly visit dogs in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, providing food, water, sturdy doghouses, flea treatment, and attention, often the only human interaction these animals
