SCOTTISH prosecutors face claims they have reduced terrorism to the level of a parking ticket after asking activists accused of supporting a proscribed group if they will pay a £100 fine instead of going to court.
The National understands that five people who joined the “lift the ban” protests in Edinburgh against the proscription of Palestine Action – organised by the Defend Our Juries (DOJ) campaign group – have been offered the chance to pay the modest fines instead of facing trial.
It comes after activists displayed placards reading: "I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action." Under UK terror laws, expressing support for a proscribed group is punishable by up to 14 years in jail/
