Residents in Kipling will soon see expanded diagnostic capabilities at their local hospital as the Saskatchewan Health Authority moves to stabilize rural emergency department services.
The SHA announced this week that it is expanding its point-of-care testing program to the Kipling Integrated Health Centre. The technology, which allows health-care teams to perform urgent lab tests at the bedside, is scheduled to be operational in the community by the beginning of December.
The move is part of a broader provincial strategy to keep rural emergency rooms open during staffing shortages. According to the SHA, the program allows emergency departments to remain operational even when laboratory professionals are unavailable.
