As of noon on Wednesday, the Grand Rapids Turkey Trot, the area’s largest 5K, had more than 6,200 runners signed up, according to Stephanie Andrews, the race’s director. She said last year’s race attracted 6,400.
“We're hoping to break a record this year,” said Andrews.
In its 33rd year, the downtown event is the second-largest of its kind in the state.
“It's so special because it raised crucial funds for kids at Grand Rapids Public Schools to be able to play sports,” said Andrews.
