HURON – Huron County could soon be introducing a new deputy warden role to county council.
County councillors passed a motion during their Nov. 19 meeting directing staff to prepare a report about options for a proposed deputy warden position, which would represent a step away from the existing past warden model used in the chambers.

Huron County designates councillors who have previously served as warden of the county as a past warden, placing them in a position where they could take up the sitting warden’s responsibilities if they are unable.
Under the existing framework, the councillor who most recently served as warden would be given the powers of the warden in those circumstances, but multiple sitting councillors can be designated as a past warden.
