Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Calcot, Reading, which resulted in the death of a man in his 60s. The incident occurred at approximately 6.30am yesterday as the man was crossing the road near Lidl. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Thames Valley Police reported that a 41-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has since been released under investigation.

Investigating officer Sergeant Matt Cadmore from the Roads Policing Unit stated, "We are still in the early stages of this investigation, but we are now able to provide a little more information, which may help to jog the memory of anybody who may have witnessed what happened."

Cadmore added, "We now believe the man was crossing the road near to Lidl’s at 6.30am when he was struck by a vehicle. It is possible that more than one vehicle may have been involved, but the driver or drivers involved may not have been aware of this, as the incident occurred in hours of darkness."

The police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward. "Were you driving in the area and did you see a man crossing the road at around 6.30am? Did you see something in the road at around the same time?" Cadmore asked.

He emphasised that even the smallest piece of information could be crucial in piecing together the events of that morning.

The family of the deceased man is being supported by specially trained family liaison officers during this difficult time.
