BERWICK, Pa. — With the firing of a pistol, the runners were off in the borough of Berwick . All of these athletes are participating in the annual Run for the Diamonds, which takes place every Thanksgiving morning before everyone gathers with family and friends.
The run began in 1908 with three men going out for a walk, and an American who had won the Olympic marathon gave them the idea to hold a race in town.
Many participants make this an annual Thanksgiving Day tradition. Some even attend for more than 40 years.
"It's just a great race, I'm originally from Berwick, so it's where I spent Thanksgiving, it's just something we did," said Carmella Dipippa of Bloomsburg.
