Police are investigating after a woman and her three children were attacked by two men who broke into their car while the family was shopping at a mall in Saugus, officials said.

The woman and her children came out of Square One Mall about 8:30 p.m. Monday and found two men had broken into their vehicle, Saugus police said in a statement.

When the woman confronted them, one of the men allegedly showed a knife while the other punched her 11-year-old child in the stomach, police said.

The two men then ran away to the lower level bus stop area of the mall, police said.
