FREEPORT, Maine — A tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 295 in Freeport early Friday, sending the driver to the hospital and shutting down an off-ramp during the morning commute.

The crash happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. when a 2024 Mack truck driven by Nikola Loncar, 42, of Colorado, drifted off the right side of the highway, struck an embankment and overturned, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a press release.

Loncar, who was wearing a seatbelt, had to be removed from the cab by Freeport firefighters, according to the release.

He was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, officials said.
