A UK cruise ship passenger is missing after falling into the water from the Marella Explorer 2.

The 76-year-old man, who is reportedly British, was seen falling into the water from the ship off the coast of the Canary Islands.

He was on the Marella Explorer 2 - operated by TUI - when the incident is said to have happened at about breakfast time on Thursday, November 27.

It led to guests hearing an announcement: "Man overboard."

The ship was due to dock at La Gomera but had to stay grounded as a search got under way.

It is understood that a boat, plane and helicopters were involved in the search.

The ship then moved from its position at around 2am on Friday, November 28.
