The National Weather Service issued a report at 9:42 a.m. on Friday for lake effect snow until 10:45 a.m. for Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery and Schoharie counties.

"At 9:41 a.m., a lake effect snow band was near Johnstown moving east at 40 MPH," describes the weather service.

Locations impacted by the alert include This lake effect snow band will remain over mainly rural areas of western Southern Fulton, north central Schoharie, Northern Fulton, Southern Herkimer and western Montgomery counties. This includes Interstate 90 between exits 29 and 30.

The weather service adds, "Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this lake effect snow band. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads may lead to accidents."
