The North Pole City Council voted to reduce its total amount of 2026 budgeted revenue during a special meeting on Monday night. However, there was debate and resistance over how the final budget document will be shaped.
The special meeting was called by a group of councilmembers, including Santa Claus, Jordan Schuster, Sandra Rolfe and David Brandt to recommend budget changes ahead of adopting the budget on Dec. 1.
Public concern
The special meeting itself drew some concern from local members over apparent lack of timely notice.
Jeffrey Jacobson, a former councilmember, noted that the original schedule to discuss the budget had three advertised dates, with the final hearing set for Dec. 1. The previous two hearings were Nov. 3 and Nov. 17.
